Introduction to Medical Bags Extrusion

Bausano produces medical extrusion lines for medical bags extruded from various plastic materials, like PVC and PP. Medical bags serve various purposes such as storage, transportation, and disposal of medical supplies, equipment, and waste. These bags are designed with specific characteristics to meet the demanding requirements of the medical field, including durability, sterility, and compatibility with various medical materials.

Applications of Medical Bags

Bausano medical bags are medical grade plastic bags ranging from 80mm to 420mm in width and variable thickness range from 0.1 to 0.65 mm.  Despite the excellent moisture-barrier properties and the high purity level of polypropylene, the prevailing i.v.-solution packaging concepts are based on plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC), glass, and polyethylene. The finished product must be temperature, impact, and corrosion resistance to withstand the high wear and repeated sterilization cycles medical plastic devices are subject to. For example, the PVC IV bags are designed for parenteral nutrition, packaging of rehydration solutions (sodium chloride, glucose, lactated Ringer’s solution, etc.), and certain antibiotics and analgesics for hospital and veterinary usage.

Medical bags find applications across a wide range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and ambulances. They are used for:

  • Storage and Transportation: Medical bags are utilized to store and transport medical supplies such as medications, bandages, syringes, and surgical instruments.
  • Waste Management: Bags designated for medical waste disposal aid in the safe and hygienic disposal of contaminated materials, reducing the risk of infection and contamination.
  • Fluid Collection: Bags for collecting bodily fluids, such as blood and urine, are essential in diagnostic procedures and patient care.

Types of Medical Bags with Bausano Extrusion Lines

With the Bausano extrusion lines it is possible to obtain tubular elements for medical bags through special heads and water-cooled calibration systems. These medical bags are used for transfusions, dialysis or drips in non-toxic material, with surface finishing of satin or embossing with non-stick function during the sterilization phases in the autoclave.

Plastic Materials for Medical Bags

Plastic materials commonly used in the extrusion of medical bags include:

  • Polyethylene (PE): Known for its flexibility and chemical resistance, PE is commonly used in the production of biohazard bags and sterile packaging.
  • Polypropylene (PP): PP offers excellent strength and durability, making it suitable for medical bags that require tear resistance and sealability.
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): PVC is widely used in the production of IV fluid bags due to its clarity, flexibility, and compatibility with medical fluids.
  • Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA): EVA is often used in the manufacture of urinary drainage bags due to its softness, flexibility, and biocompatibility.

In the extrusion process for medical bag production, Bausano extrusion lines offer precision, reliability, and customization options to meet the stringent quality and regulatory requirements of the healthcare industry. These extrusion lines enable the efficient production of medical bags with consistent quality and performance, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of healthcare services.
